From September 1 to 11, 2010, the 67^ International Film Festival in Venice: Campo San Polo will host the preview of the historical film by Dino Risi “Scent of a Woman” with Vittorio Gassman, a fully restored version. Guest of honor will obviously Alessandro Gassman. The film is part of the projections of this year’s major retrospective dedicated to Italian comic situation as well as a tribute to Vittorio Gassman as the tenth anniversary of his death.

The International Exhibition Film Festival of this year is very different from the usual one. To start from the programming which sees the films of important directors, like Manoel de Oliveira, Marco Bellocchio, Martin Scorsese, Gabriele Salvatores, Giuseppe Tornatore, among others, present in the side sections and not in competition.

Marco Muller wanted to give more space to young talents in competition rather than the major names.

Italian films (which this year are many) that could speak more about themselves are probably 13 out of competition, as Vallanzasca - angels of evil “by Michele Placido. Gabriele Salvatores, also present at the festival as a juror brings to the lagoon, “1960, epic tale about the years of the Great Migration” Piergiorgio Gay homages Ligabue “Do not worry”, Marco Bellocchio presents his personal family novel ‘Sisters never’; Stefano Incerti presents ‘Gorbaciof’, an announcement surprise, and again Antonio presents “the dark love”, Roberta Torre “kisses never given”. The only sure thing is that the Film Festival is so rich in Italian cinema.

Parties, galas, social events:
It is also a big news to start with a sober opening party tomorrow: a simple buffet after the screening of the film “Black Swan”, with the presence of Vincent Cassel and Natalie Portman.

For the first big social event must wait probably until Friday: a nice party wil lbe organized in honor of “Somewhere” by Sofia Coppola. There will also be Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning, the two protagonists, as well as the entire cast of Italian movie: Simona Ventura, Nino Frassica, Laura Chiatti and Valeria Marini. Friday will also be dedicated to the delivery of the Golden Lion to the legendary John Woo, so yje Biennnale organizes a private dinner, attended Michelle Yeoh, the undisputed first lady of cinema in the Middle East, with her boyfriend Jean Todt, the former CEO Ferrari. Two other social events will speak for itself: September 10, the awards’ eve ceremony, a party at Harry’s Bar will feature Paul Giamatti and Dustin Hoffman who take to Venice the “Barney’s Version”. On the same evening, Diego Della Valle will offer a refined dinner at Papadopoli Palace in honor of Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo.

On the base of project Culture_Nature there is the integration of multidisciplinary fields different from one another but linked by many thin wires that connect the various meanings of the contemporary environment. The Park of Thetis Area, was designed by the landscape architect Andreas Kipar as a unique leaf that propagates outwards its energy and lifeblood.

Architecture, landscape, agriculture, energy, design, art, movies are the protagonists of this side event that will enrich debates, conferences and other scheduled meetings that will alternate during the opening period.

It will trace the “composition project” of a contemporary concert of master Ezio Bosso, talented musician and composer known, among other works, for movie soundtracks by Gabriele Salvatores, first with the presentation of the book “Eso - The Architectural Space” of musical composition by Ezio Bosso.

Objective of the event is to discover how music is linked with architecture: it is a clear example of a composition by Ezio Bosso, translated into a construction inside Vienna cathedral, Stephansdom.

From August 29 to November 21, 2010 at Arsenale and Giardini in Venice, is open to the public the 12th Biennale of Architecture. The international jury composed of Beatriz Colomina (Spain) Jury President, Francesco Dal Co (Italy), Joseph Grima (Italy), Arata Isozaki (Japan), Moritz Küng (Switzerland) and Trinh T. Minh-ha (Vietnam), placed in the spaces of the gardens, the official awards: almost all were awarded surprising anyone who tried to make any predictions.

The Golden Lion for best national participation went to the Kingdom of Bahrain, who impressed the judges “for the lucid and effective self-analysis report of the country with the rapid change of its coastline”, the Golden Lion for best design of the exhibition “People meet in architecture” to a Japanese study, Junya Ishigami, who led the project made of interwoven wires nearly invisible, the Silver Lion for promising young participants was handed over to Belgians and Dutchs

What most strikes about this Biennal, is the almost total absence of real architectural projects (few models) and examples of urban transformation as was given more weight to the concepts of idea and research projected towards a future sometimes poetic and sometimes fiction.

The visitor must enter imagining the future of architecture on earth. You will see that suddenly appear along the way a cloud in a room: a sensory experience proposed by Transsolar & Tetsuo Kondo Architects, a small change within the space occupied by the cloud produces a transformation into the cloud itself and the environment. Immediately after you enter a dark space in which explode at times the water games and strobe lights by Olafur Eliasson: a stunning and hypnotic experience. And then, the night observatory Isobiotrope R&Sie(n) which aims to study the physiological adaptation and eye of humans in the dark. Smiljan Radic+Marcela Correa, Chile, have designed the shell of habitable rock, a prototype of an idealized social space of the future.

The 12th Biennale of Architecture, as wished by the Director of the Chamber, Kazuyo Sejima and Director of the Biennale, Paolo Baratta, this year has turned into a celebration of the art of the building space: it no longer wants to be art representation and celebration of itself as it was in the past.

Hours: from 10,00 am to 6,00 pm
Tickets: 20€, reduced 16€

The permanent exhibition in Palazzo Grimani will be inaugurated among the three most famous works of Giorgione, which this year marks the fifth centenary: The Old (1506), The Nude (1508) and the Storm (1507/1508), his more controversial masterpiece. “The Nude”, originally the result of a fresco at Fondaco dei Tedeschi and the “Old” exceptional painting, temporarily away from the Academy Galleries, are the ideal crowning and the reunification of Giorgione all Venetian, culminating with the masterpiece of “The Tempest”, the most famous and enigmatic painting by Giorgione, the first true example of Italian landscape painting and, at the center for centuries of countless philological disputes on the proper interpretation of its subject.
The selection of works exhibited, including the most significant produced in the past decade both by great designers and newcomers was made by a committee consisting of two masters of contemporary graphics Kazumasa Nagai and Shin Matsunaga in collaboration with International Hokusai Research Centre: the posters are representative of production of the main associations of graphic designers and art directors like the Tokyo Art Directors Club (ADC), Japan Grafic Designers’ Association (JAGDA), Type Directors Club (TDC).

The richness of signs and colors, images and words eurythmy deployed in these posters, which draw from ancient traditions but are shown projected into the future, makes the audience share of a birth of meaning, stimulating the perceptual capacities between word and image, between concept and vision, through the richness of color, line and calligraphy, almost having to coexist Latin, Chinese and Japanese characters.

Ticket price: 5.00 eur; reduced 3.00 eur
Time: 10,30 am – 5,30 pm, Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays

The exhibition, organized in eight sections, takes place through the images stories created by the objective of Kubrick: Portugal Lusitanian narrates the journey of two American after the war; Crimes witness the arrest of two criminals by following the movements of police, their strategies, their cunning, until their catch.

Furstenberg Betsy, the protagonist of the section dedicated to her, represents the symbol of the vibrant New York of those years, will be counterbalanced by the events of the small shoe-shine on the street corners of New York.

In addition, there will be sections dedicated to the life that remained in the Columbia University, a place where America formed the elite ruling class of the future, and inside Mooseheart Campus in Illinois, a university residence, built by benefactors, to educate war orphaned children that would have gone to swell the ranks of the American middle class, or those depicting the epic of the musicians of New Orleans or the diverse world of circus artists.

Kubrick’s first picture was published in June 26, 1945 showing a newsagent distraughted over the Roosevelt’s death, an image that captivates so much the editors of Look magazine to offer the young Kubrick the opportunity to join the staff of the historical magazine as photoreporter

The Look method, characterized by narrative episodes, did not meet the satisfaction of the most important photojournalists of the time. The leaders of the magazine wanted the subject to be constantly followed, which was photographed in everything he did. This style exerted a great fascination on intrusive Kubrick who liked to create their stories starting from the photos. To obtain the characters of the poses that were more natural looking, Kubrick put in place a series of unnoticed tricks. One of these was to hide the cable camera under his coat sleeve and the shutter with the switch hidden in the palm of his hand. Much of the aesthetic sense that we find in his films was already expressed in his work of recent years.
